That's what makes myboshi velvet wool special. But what exactly is chenille wool, you ask?
Chenille (pronounced “sche-nil-ye”) means “caterpillar” in French.
And that's exactly what myboshi velvet looks like: like a fluffy, hairy caterpillar. Chenille wool was already used as a knitting yarn in the 18th century.
However, the velvety and fluffy-soft material became more widely known in the 1970s and 80s through the “Magic Worm,” a cult toy of the time.
In the 1990s, this trendy yarn also experienced a revival in the fashion world. Velvet wool is used and loved by fluffy lovers, fashionistas, and amigurumi fans all over the world for crocheting and knitting.
